Last updated: July 28, 2026

1. Introduction

The Solar Community (“we,” “our,” or “us”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website thesolarcommunity.com, use our services, or communicate with us — including via phone, email, SMS, or in person.

By using our website or services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of our website and services.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

Personal Information You Provide

  • Contact details — name, email address, phone number, and mailing address when you fill out a form, request a consultation, or sign up for our services.
  • Utility account information — utility provider name, account number, and usage details needed to determine community solar eligibility and estimated savings.
  • Communications — messages you send us via contact forms, email, SMS, or phone.
  • Employment information — resume, work history, and contact details when you apply for a position.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data — pages visited, time spent on pages, referring URLs, and navigation patterns.
  • Device data — browser type, operating system, device type, IP address, and general location.
  • Cookies & similar technologies — small data files stored on your device to improve site experience (see Section 7).

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Determine your eligibility for community solar programs and estimate your savings.
  • Process your enrollment in community solar or solar installation services.
  • Communicate with you about your account, appointments, and service updates — including via SMS (see Section 9).
  • Respond to your inquiries, questions, and support requests.
  • Improve our website, services, and customer experience.
  • Send marketing communications (only with your consent, and you may opt out at any time).
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Community solar providers — to enroll you, we share necessary account details with partner programs (e.g., Pivot Energy, Ampion, Common Energy).
  • Service providers — trusted third parties who assist with website hosting, analytics, communications, and business operations — bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal requirements — when required by law, court order, or government regulation.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred.
  • With your consent — we may share your information for any other purpose with your explicit permission.

5. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy — including legal, accounting, and reporting obligations. When no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize your data.

7. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your browsing experience, analyze site traffic, and understand where visitors come from. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect certain site features.

8. Third-Party Links

Our website may link to third-party websites (e.g., partner solar providers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

9. SMS / Text Messaging Terms & Conditions

This section governs text message communications between The Solar Community and you. It complies with CTIA guidelines and carrier requirements for all major U.S. carriers.

9.1 Opt-In & Consent

By providing your mobile phone number to The Solar Community — whether through our website forms, in person, over the phone, or via any other channel — you consent to receive informational and service-related text messages (SMS/MMS) from us. Consent is not a condition of purchase or service.

9.2 Types of Messages

Depending on your interaction with us, you may receive the following types of messages. Below are real examples of messages we send — every message includes opt-out instructions (reply STOP) and our contact number for questions.

Use Case 1: Account Activation Confirmation

Sent after you complete enrollment paperwork — confirms your Community Solar account is active and when to expect your first bill credit.

“Hi [First Name], this is The Solar Community confirming your Community Solar account is now active. You should see your first bill credit within 1–2 billing cycles. Questions? Call us at [phone number]. Reply STOP to opt-out.”

Use Case 2: Post-Enrollment Follow-Up

Sent after enrollment is complete — confirms welcome materials were sent, answers common questions, and sets expectations for your next utility bill.

“Hi [First Name], thanks again for joining The Solar Community! Just a quick follow-up — your enrollment is complete and your savings should start appearing on your next utility bill. Need help understanding the credit or have any questions? We're here at [phone number]. Reply STOP to opt-out.”

Use Case 3: Customer Satisfaction Survey

Sent to enrolled customers — a short feedback survey (under 60 seconds) to help us improve.

“Hi [First Name], thank you for enrolling with The Solar Community. We'd love your quick feedback (takes under 60 seconds): [survey link]. Your input helps us serve neighbors better. Call [phone number] with any questions. Reply STOP to opt-out.”

In addition to the above, you may also receive:

  • Appointment reminders — confirmations and reminders for scheduled solar consultations, site assessments, and follow-up visits.
  • Service updates — important notifications about your subscription, provider changes, or program updates.
  • Customer support replies — responses to your inquiries and resolution confirmations.

9.3 Messaging Frequency

Messaging frequency may vary. You may receive messages periodically based on your interactions with us — for example, around an active enrollment (several messages over a short period) or occasional service updates (a few messages per year). We will not send excessive or irrelevant messages.

9.4 Message & Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier apply to all SMS/MMS communications. Please check your mobile plan for details. The Solar Community is not responsible for any charges from your carrier.

9.5 Opt-Out / STOP

To opt out at any time, text STOP. You may reply STOP to any text message from us to unsubscribe immediately. After texting STOP, you will receive a single confirmation message, and no further messages will be sent to your number unless you re-enroll by providing your number again. Alternatively, you may contact us at [email protected] or call (302) 300-4828 to request removal.

9.6 Help / Support

For assistance, text HELP or visit our website at https://thesolarcommunity.com. You can also contact us by email at [email protected] or call (302) 300-4828 (DE) or (315) 920-9291 (NY).
